Abstract

Family resilience is a multidimensional phenomenon encompassing the family’s capacity to manage resources, achieve collective goals, maintain functional stability, respond to conflict, preserve core values, and ensure intergenerational continuity. In the Indonesian context, the urgency of this issue is reflected in the 399,921 divorce cases recorded in 2024, with disputes and persistent conflict constituting one of the major contributing factors. This study aims to analyze family resilience from the perspective of Islamic family law, examine the relevance and limitations of Talcott Parsons’ structural functionalist theory, and reconstruct a conceptual model that integrates the two approaches. The study employs library research using normative, sociological, and critical-philosophical approaches. Data were analyzed through content analysis and comparative analysis of Islamic normative sources, Islamic family law literature, Parsons’ theory, and the literature on family resilience. The findings indicate that the AGIL framework provides a systemic framework for explaining family functions but does not explicitly account for the normative orientation of family goals, individual formation prior to marriage, mechanisms for conflict resolution, or the intergenerational reproduction of values. Islamic family law, by contrast, provides normative and transcendental dimensions through individual development, family formation, family governance, iṣlāḥ and taḥkīm, social relations, and the education of subsequent generations. Based on this synthesis, the study proposes the Islamic Family Resilience Cycle Model (IFRCM), consisting of six stages: Pre-Marital Foundation, Family Formation, Family Governance, Conflict Management, Social Expansion, and Value Reproduction. The IFRCM is a reconstructed conceptual model that integrates the functional dimensions of AGIL with the normative orientation of Islamic family law within a cyclical, intergenerational framework and provides a foundation for further empirical research.
